Gallery

The gallery is a window on my work, and a look at how my style has progressed over the last 25 or so years. The earliest, as well as the simplest, work is represented by the hinges and door pulls. Not generally represented here is work involving gates and rails. Not unlike hinges I consider gates and rail to be flat work. The nature of that work, with the exception of the lizard rail on the home page, generally does not allow for great, physical depth of design.

The stove and fireplace are flat sheet fabrication with simple cut out designs. Both the stove and fireplace are airtight and have worked very nicely over the last 25 years. Unfortunately, the litigious and regulatory environment we live in today precludes my building any future stoves. This is unfortunate as stoves are great objects for free form sculptures. I generally delight in what I call functional art. Functional art has a primary function not related to the artistic elements of the piece. The lizard hand rail is an example of this. Its first, or primary, job is to function as a hand rail. The sculptural aspect is secondary to that. Some works not featured here but falling under the functional banner are free form copper sinks, bath tubs and bird baths.

Lastly we have good old art for arts sake. The copper nude and giant wall lizard are examples of this. Work just for the joy of being. I try and not make a distinction between fine art and functional art. Not only is snobbery not in my nature but I consider all manner of creativity to be a noble undertaking.
